BALDWIN COUNTY

Rules Governing the Construction, Equipment, and Operation of Public Swimming Pools and Spas. Chapter 499-05-01Section 9 Specific Safety Equipment9.3 Lifesaving Equipment: Per (E), a telephone for the pool/spa with posted names and phone numbers of the nearest available police, fire, ambulance service and/or rescue unit, and/or 911, if available. The use of a cellular phone or a portable wireless phone for an emergency phone is prohibited. 

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA

Rules Governing the Construction, Maintenance and Operation of Public Swimming Pools and Spas. Chapter 5 – Water Quality, Operations, and Management: Per (9), all pool facilities must have a sign posted within sight of the facility’s main entry that indicates the location of the nearest landline telephone that can be used to call emergency services. The sign should include telephone numbers (with area code) that can be called for emergency services, including, but not limited to, the following:  

  • Police 
  • Fire 
  • Ambulance 
  • Rescue Services 

If 911 service is available for any of the above services, make sure it’s indicated next to the service telephone number.  

The sign should include the street address and city where the pool is located, and the nearest landline that is indicated on the sign must be able to be used to call emergency services free of charge. An additional sign with the telephone and address information should also be posted in sight of the landline phone.

Arkansas Pool Phone Law

RULES AND REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO SWIMMING POOLS AND OTHER RELATED FACILITIES. Section XX: SAFETY:  Per (F), all pools require telephone service conveniently available on the premises with a clearly visible listing of emergency phone numbers to include the nearest emergency and medical services next to the telephone.

California Pool Phone Law

Title 22 DPH-03-017A – PUBLIC POOLS. 65540. Safety and First Aid Equipment:Per (b)(1),public pools with lifeguard personnel on duty require an operating telephone as an additional safety equipment item.

Chapter 51 DRMCSection E. SWIMMER SAFETY: Per (14), all pools require a telephone or equivalent alarm system within the immediate pool.

Department of Public Health CodeSec. 19-13-B33b. Public pools: Per (16), each pool must have a telephone or other suitable device for emergency communication readily available in the immediate vicinity and on the premises where the pool is located.

Delaware Pool Phone Law

Title 16: Department of Health and Social Services: Division of Public Health: Health Systems Protection (HSP): 4464 Public Swimming PoolsSection 9.0: Operation, Maintenance, General Sanitation, Personnel, Supervision and Safety: Per 9.15.1.1-4, all pools require a functional telephone/other communication device that is hard wired and capable of directly dialing 911 as the emergency notification system.  

  • The telephone/communication system should be clearly provided and immediately accessible to all aquatic venue users. 
  • For situations when a hardwired telephone isn’t logistically sound, alternate functional systems/devices/communication processes are allowed with AHJ approval when alternate means of communication is available. 
  • A permanent sign that provides emergency dialing directions and the pool’s facility address must be posted and maintained at the emergency telephone/system/device.

Georgia Pool Phone Law

Georgia Department of Public Health – Rules and RegulationsChapter 511-3-5 Public Swimming Pools, Spas, and Recreational Water ParksSection 511-3-5-.18 Specific Safety Features: Per (8)(c), all public swimming pools must provide a hard wired and affixed telephone with posted names and phone numbers of the nearest available police, fire, ambulance service and/or rescue unit, and/or 911, if available.

Idaho Pool Phone Law

IDAPA 16- Department of Health and Welfare16.02.14 Rules Governing Construction and Operation of Public Swimming Pools in Idaho197. HEALTH AND SAFETY – EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION: A means of contacting emergency medical services shall be readily accessible and be provided on the premises. (4-5-00)

Illinois Pool Phone Law

Title 77: Public Health Chapter. Chapter I: Department of Public Health. Subchapter n: Recreational Facilities. Part 820 Swimming Facility CodeSection 820.310 Safety Equipment: Per (c), When a swimming facility is open for use, an emergency telephone and emergency contact list must be readily available. The phone should be accessible within the vicinity of the pool or within 300 feet of the pool enclosure.  

If the facility is multi-level, the emergency telephone must be located within three levels of that which the pool is located.  

The following numbers should be posted in a conspicuous place near the phone:  

  • Local police
  • State police
  • Fire department
  • Physician
  • Ambulance service
  • Hospital
  • 911 where applicable 

The name, address, and telephone number of the swimming pool must be listed by the phone, and the location of the emergency phone must be posted in the swimming pool area if the telephone is not located within the pool area.

Indiana Pool Phone Law

Indiana State Department of HealthEnvironmental Public Health DivisionPublic and Semi-Public Swimming Pools Rule 410 IAC 6-2.1.Section 35: Lifesaving and safety equipment: Per (e), A telephone must be located within 200 feet of the pool enclosure and must be available for emergency use whenever the pool is open. The facility location along with the following emergency numbers should be posted within view:

  • 911
  • Ambulance/rescue unit
  • Hospital
  • Police station
  • Fire department

Iowa Pool Phone Law

Iowa Administrative CodeDepartment of Public Health [641]Chapter 15: Swimming Pools and SpasSection 15.4(4) Safety- f. Emergency equipment and facilities: Per (6), (aside from wading pools and spray pads), each swimming pool where lifeguards aren’t provided must have a designated emergency telephone or an equivalent emergency communication system that can be operated without coins that’s available to swimming pool users when the pool is open. If the telephone isn’t within the confines of the swimming pool enclosure, the location of the emergency phone most be posted in at least one conspicuous place within the enclosure. Instructions for emergency use of the telephone must be posted near the phone.

Kentucky Pool Phone Law

Safety Equipment:  Per (10), all facilities must have a readily accessible and conspicuously nonpay telephone on the premises. For isolated cities, 2-way radio communication systems to a manned telephone system may be substituted. The telephone number of a police, fire department, emergency medical service, or a hospital must be posted in a conspicuous place near the phone.
