Safeguarding your tenants and property during a time of crisis, such as a natural disaster, violent assault, or accidental injury, is important. Security measures such as cameras, alarms and emergency phone systems are crucial tools for bringing peace of mind to both you and your tenants, and of course are primarily in place for emergency situations. It’s no coincidence that emergency is in the name of our company: Kings III Emergency Communications and in the name of our solutions: emergency phone systems. Still, while we are in the business of handling emergencies and fully equipped to do so with twenty-four hour-a-day, seven day-a-week monitoring and while our operators are nationally certified as emergency medical dispatchers, we have found that often we receive calls that are not necessarily emergencies but are from people who could just use a little help. Although not all of these calls can be technically considered an emergency, we recognize that even more routine needs and requests can influence a tenant’s perceived safety level on-site, and we aim to provide a concierge-level response. Types of nonemergency calls
Imagine that you are in the elevator heading down to your vehicle after a long day of work. You have your keys in hand and you are ready to go. The elevator door opens and you begin to step out but then the unthinkable happens, your keys slip from your hands and fall through the space between the elevator cab and the building floor. So much for getting home in time for dinner…
You might not think it could happen, but it does. It could happen to you or your tenants, and keys are not the only important items that can be dropped down an elevator shaft. Access cards, ID cards and key fobs are also subject to slipping through the cracks.
What if a visitor at your building were to feel lost or even find themselves stuck inside the building after security had already locked up for the day? We have received calls for these very reasons.
Have you ever forgotten your phone in your vehicle? What if when you went back to get it, you discovered that you had forgotten your keys inside of it as well, and oh, the doors are locked too? Our phones and operators have been there to help people who were in this exact situation.
What about flat tires, broken-in windows, engine problems or towed cars? It is not uncommon for tenants to encounter these scenarios in public parking lots or garages.
Situations like these can be startling and distressing for tenants, and they often don’t know where to look for help. A visible emergency telephone can provide immediate reassurance. Our operators will connect the caller with the appropriate help to alleviate an inconvenient situation.
Finally, of course, we are always ready to receive a call from onsite personnel performing their regular test calls to ensure emergency telephones are working properly.

Our emergency dispatchers have received calls for many reasons. Our pool phone systems have been used to report everything from car fires to domestic abuse. Calls have even come in from children heading home from school who have forgotten or lost their keys and need help getting into their apartment. An elevator phone is necessary as a failsafe in the event of the elevator losing power or experiencing a mechanical failure. The metal of the elevator itself, along with the surrounding concrete, plumbing and wiring for the building, make cellular phone service unreliable from inside the cab. This is the most obvious reason for an emergency elevator phone to be in place but not the only reason, as in the case of items dropped down the elevator shaft.
A help phone in parking areas, stairwells or building exteriors serves as a means to call for help in the event of an accident, injury, medical emergency or assault. Still, calls to report vehicle break-ins or theft, or simply to ask for directions come in from these phones as well.
If a nonemergency call comes in, our operators make every effort to find the appropriate help or answer for the caller.
